Sifatus Salaah: The Method of Salaah in the Light of Authentic Ahadith

Very often the following question is posed to many people: "Do you follow the Deen of Imaam Abu Hanifa (R.A.) or the Deen of Rasulullah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim)?" "Obviously the Deen of Rasulullah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim)," comes the instant reply. The second question is then posed: "Why then do you call yourself a Hanafi?" The person not well versed is perplexed by this question. Doubts are then created in his mind. He soon starts gradually drifting towards the abandoning of taqleed i.e. following one of the four illustrious Imaams viz. Imaam Abu Hanifa (R.A.), Imaam Shafi'i (R.A.), Imaam Malik (R.A.) and Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal (R.A.).

By means of the type of questions that have been mentioned above, a deliberate attempt is made to create a misconception in the minds of the unwary — that if you are a Hanafi, you are following the Deen of Imaam Abu Hanifa (R.A.), NOT the Deen of Muhammad (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim). This is an absolute fallacy. Imaam Abu Hanifa (R.A.), Imaam Shafi'i (R.A.) and the other Imaams did not invent any Deen of their own. They strictly followed the one and only Deen — the Deen of Islam brought by Rasulullah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim). Their followers are hence also following the same Deen — the Deen of Rasulullah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim).

Ahkam ul Ramadhan al Mubarak

"It is a great favour of Allah by virtue of Whose Beloved we received the blessed month of Ramadan. The month of Ramadan comes every year; however, very few people are aware of its etiquette and respect. As such, it has been my intention for quite some time that I should prepare something so as to remind those brothers who are unaware, which is now fulfilled. I am ill and it is the third fast of Ramadan [today]. Presented are the issues pertaining to Ramadan and Eid, that are neither too detailed nor too brief, and they should suffice, Allah-willing, and should be enough to fulfil [people’s] needs. Nevertheless, it is respectfully requested from the observant reader to let me know of any deficiency herein so as to enable corrections in the second edition.

Whatever I could muster in this haste is presented [before you]. I have spent only a few moments in three days in dedication to the religion of Allah (Most High) in this regard; may He (Most High) accept it from me by the grace of His Beloved . Āmīn – by the sanctity of Ṭāhā and Yāsīn, may Allah (Most High) bless him, his Progeny, and all his Companions. All praise is for Allah."

Translation and Summary of Nūr al-Īḍāḥ

Written by: al-Imām Abu al-Ikhlāṣ al-Ḥasan Ibn ʿAmmār al-Shurunbulālī al-Ḥanafī (d. 1069 AH)

Edited by: Shaykh Mahdī Lock Translated by: Translated by: Badr al-Dīn al-Dimashqī

Introduction
In the name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise be to Him, the Lord of the all worlds. And may peace and blessings be upon His noble Messenger, our master Muḥammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, and upon his family and companions.

This is a summary and translation of the chapter of fasting from the book Nūr al-Īḍāḥ written by the great Ḥanafī jurist al-Shurunbulālī (d. 1069). In this summary, I have omitted portions of the chapter that are not relevant  to the general public to make the Fiqh of fasting simple and accessible. The footnotes are important additions from relied-upon works, and they either clarify or add details to the original text.

Because this is a short summary of the Fiqh of fasting for the general public, it does not include answers to specific questions or Fatāwā (legal verdicts). For Fatāwā, visit: https://seekersguidance.org/
Special thanks to my teacher, Shaykh Mahdī Lock, may Allāh preserve and reward him, for vigilantly editing and refining this booklet. I ask Allāh to benefit the Muslims with this work, and for it to be a means of forgiveness for me, my parents, and my teachers.

Concerning the Taqwa and 'Ilm of Imam Abu Hanifah

In Defense of Imam Nu’man bin Thabit al Kufi,
Abu Hanifah رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ

This article was written in response to a posting on Mu'min Net entitled "Unity and Dawah Message for Allah Fearing Muslims" and the response to it by brother Shiraz Muhammad 'Ali. Brother Muhammad 'Ali posed certain questions and furnishes his answers to said questions. In the process he has belittled Imam Abu Hanifah Rahmatullah 'alaihi in several places and confuses the issues in other places. On the other hand, many misguided youth in an attempt to "protect deen from bid'ah" attribute their lack of knowledge of a thing to the "vile innovations of the Sufi’s". Simply because one does not have knowledge of a thing is not proof that it is incorrect or bid'ah. I once remember hearing a brother (some years ago) say, "That can't be right, I never heard of that." It amazed me how someone could say a thing was not right, while admitting he didn't know. The arrogance and sheer ignorance of the statement amazed me.
