Some of the teachings of
Sayyid Hazrat Hasan al-Basri
(r.a.)
by
Sheikh Syed Mubarak Ali Jilani Al-Hashmi Hasni wal-Husayni

  • He who gives a free reign to his sight his depression/sorrow increases and he who says whatever he likes, he kills himself. Patience is the essence of good deeds.
  • Although after repenting for the sin of backbiting one may be forgiven, but seek forgiveness of one whose backbiting you did.
  • There is no animal in the world more unruly and disobedient than Nafs.
  • If you wish to know what will be the condition of the world after your death, then look at the world after the death of others.
  • Only he aspires for wealth whom Allah wishes to humiliate.
  • O man, if your Nafs obtains deliverance then you have achieved deliverance and if your Nafs is killed they you too have been killed and those other than you who achieve deliverance will be of no help to you.
