Islam is the religion & way of life created by Allah (The Name of the Almighty Creator, in Arabic) for all of mankind, built upon five pillars and seven beliefs.

Rasulullah (The Prophet Muhammad, Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) explained that Islam is built upon five pillars, as follows:

  1. Shahadah - The Testification
  2. Shahadah is the testification that one bears witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) is His Messenger.
  3. Salaat - The Established Prayer.
  4. Salaat is the method of prayer which includes bowing and prostration, done five times daily at the prescribed times.
  5. Zakat - Obligatory Charity
  6. Zakat is the obligatory charity on wealth exceeding a prescribed limit.
  7. Sawm - Fasting during Ramadan
  8. Sawm means to fast. A Muslim is obliged to fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan, unless he or she is unable to perform the fast under certain conditions in which Allah says one does not have to fast in Holy Qur'an.
  9. Hajj - Pilgrimage to The Holy City of Makkah
  10. The Hajj the the pilgrimage to the Holy City of Makkah. A Muslim is commanded to do so at least once in his or her life, provided he or she is capable of performing it.

There are seven beliefs one must have in order to be Muslim, known as Iman Mufassal.

I believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, The Last Day, and that good and evil is ordained by Allah, and the Life after death.

  1. Allah (God, in Arabic)
  2. His Angels
  3. His Books
  4. His Messengers
  5. The Last Day
  6. Predestination of All Good and Evil
  7. The Life After Death
